"Meet BIG MAMA! Because of its sonority, this drum is felt just as much as it is heard. It's a Frankenstein instrument which mixes various drum building styles from around the world and through its massive weight and tone, earns its name. Salvatore Sciarrino is known for his innovative musical language and Big Mama fits perfectly within his colorful landscape. This drum supplies the heartbeat, and it’s a great privilege to have such a sound in the ensemble’s instrument collection. Within a summer filled with musical treasures, I'm especially looking forward to our performance of Sciarrino's Macbeth on July 25 as a part of the Salzburg Festival."
