Der Prozess

Gottfried von Einem based the title of his opera Der Prozess on Franz Kafka's novel of the same name, which premiered in 1953. With pounding rhythms and repetitive structures, Von Einem conveys the hopeless situation of the protagonist Franz K., while at the same time making use of elements of jazz and twelve-tone music. Under the direction of Walter Kobéra and Stefan Herheim, students of the Klangforum Wien master's programme PPCM (Performance Practice in Contemporary Music) performed the version by Tobias Leppert as a co-production with the Neue Oper Wien for the MusikTheater an der Wien.
