With two concerts, a „coda“ featuring Iannis Xenakis (*1922) and a “kick-off” devoted to György Ligeti (*1923), Klangforum Wien marks these major anniversaries, staking out two colossal landmarks in our present sense of time which, due to the current challenges, is at risk of drifting off into a confused and disoriented loss of history. In those days, when Xenakis and Ligeti were born, much came to an end but, at the same time, morphed into starting-points for new departures.
Klangforum Wien’s concert series 22/23 takes this into account: An enquiry into what the future may bring, as well as an awareness of the history of new developments define its contents.
FERMATE
A moment for reflection. Personalities from the fields of philosophy, architecture, religion, literature, science and the arts explore the music we’ve just heard, in a dialogue with composers, musicians and the audience, in the light of their own domain. Fermata is the new format of Klangforum Wien to experience and understand the meaning of new music.
