The Tower of Babel: Voices Berlin

The Tower of Babel is a programme dedicated to recent works by composers from the region of the former Soviet Union. After performances at the Wiener Konzerthaus and Radialsystem Berlin in 2023, the most recent edition of the programme within the framework of VOICES Festival Berlin 2024 focussed on novel discoveries, putting new compositions from Central Asia into the spotlight. Works by Justė Janulytė (Lithuania), Oxana Omelchuk (Belarus), Maxim Kolomiiets (Ukraine), Turkar Gasimzada (Azerbaijan), Vladimir Tarnopolski (Russia/Ukraine) mapped the new musical landscapes of today's post-Soviet societies, highlighting their artistically uncompromising voices with due matter-of-factness.
