Dances for Lucia Długoszewski
Can playing music be like dance and can dancing be like playing music? This question is at the heart of the dance project Dances for Lucia Długoszewski, which was realised by choreographers Weronika Pelczyńska from Warsaw and Vienna-based Elizabeth Ward together with Klangforum Wien. Premiered at the Viennese ImPulsTanz Festival in August 2024 at Odeon Theater, the programme was also shown at transart Festival in Bolzano in September 2024.
In combination with multi-faceted choreographies and unique performative constellations, the utopian gestures of contrasting rhythms and pace in Długoszewski’s music invite the audience to fully embrace new ways of seeing and hearing and to sense the kinetic energy of the compositions.
The dance project follows on the heels of Klangforum Wien's award-winning recordings Długoszewski's essential compositions: The double album Abyss and Caress (released by col legno in October 2023) is considered to be the first comprehensive sound portrait of her oeuvre. It has sparked an exciting, transdisciplinary collaboration with choreographers and dancers.
Thanks to the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, co-organizer, for supporting the project.
