An opera about ancestry and memory, time, obliteration, and enlightenment. Distinct yet connected to a world spirit rooted in positivism, Australian composer Liza Lim opera*Tree of Codes* emerges from *Street of Crocodiles *. In this opera, it becomes visible and audible how the new is always contained within the old, and how they constantly refer to and build upon one another. The opera is composed of different temporal layers—heterogeneous temporal realities that exist in parallel beyond the normal, linear calendar. This poetic and sensual collision between past, present, and future allows for the perception of different realities.
Premiere: 31. October 2026, Additional performances: November 3, 5, 6, and 8 November
A production of the Neue Oper Wien. In cooperation with Wien Modern.
