The 37th Erste Bank Composition Prize will be awarded to Katharina Klement. The world premiere of her work Schaum will take place on 22. November 2026, as part of Wien Modern.

Katharina Klement (born in Graz) works as a “composer-performer” in the fields of composed and improvised, electronic, and instrumental music. Her extensive body of work includes numerous interdisciplinary projects that bring together the media of music, text, and video. Hardly anyone explores the possibilities of musical material—from its conception to its manipulation—as broadly as Katharina Klement. Her exemplary willingness to push the boundaries of sound research often reflects a systematic rigor that precedes the indirect results of her improvisations and compositions, making her an authentic voice in the pursuit of independent art.

Mood and resonance play a central role in Catherine Lamb’s works. Although theoretically complex, the sophisticated processes Lamb sets in motion reach the ear as enchanting, multifaceted clouds of sound that are in a state of constant flux. the illuminated grid will have its Austrian premiere as part of Wien Modern.
