On the opening night of Interfinity 2027, Georg Friedrich Haas’s monumental work *11,000 Strings* will be performed (Swiss premiere)—a composition lasting about one hour for 50 pianos distributed throughout the space, each tuned to the next at intervals of one hundredth of a tone, and a chamber orchestra. The audience finds itself right in the midst of the soundscape, surrounded by the instruments, which merge into a single, immersive ensemble and create a three-dimensional, microtonal sound space of unique intensity. The work will be performed by 50 pianists from the Basel University of Music together with the world-renowned Klangforum Wien at the Messehalle Basel. Since its world premiere in 2023, the work has been performed for audiences numbering in the millions in cities including New York, Amsterdam, Paris, Vienna, and Berlin.
