Klangforum Wien invites applications for a saxophone position in one of the world's leading ensembles for contemporary music.

Since its founding in 1985 by composer and conductor Beat Furrer, the ensemble has been at the forefront of new musical developments. As a collective soloists, Klangforum Wien performs more than 80 concerts each season worldwide, touring internationally and appearing at major festivals, renowned concert halls and opera houses. The ensemble also presents its own concert series at the Wiener Konzerthaus in Vienna, alongside numerous recordings and innovative artistic projects. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with leading composers and conductors and to shape the future of contemporary music within a highly dedicated artistic collective.

Selection Process

The selection process consists of four stages:

1. Video Preselection

Live audition in Vienna

Trial period – participation in concert projects as a guest musician with Klangforum Wien

Probation year leading to a potential membership in the ensemble

Video Preselection

Video Requirements

Please note the following when recording your video:

• For the best possible evaluation (dynamics, etc.), the recording should be of high quality (formats: mp4, avi, wmv, mpg or mov)

• The recording must be filmed in a single wide shot.

• The video must be unedited.

• Repertoire may be submitted in separate video files. In this case, please name the file clearly (work title, composer, applicant´s name).

•Recordings must not be older than 6 months at the time of submission.

• The total file size of all files (videos and CV) should not exceed 3GB.

• The following platforms can be used at your discretion: WeTransfer, YouTube, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive

The data and videos you submit will, of course, be used solely for processing as part of the selection process and will under no circumstances be used for any other purpose or shared with third parties. Your application materials and videos will be deleted once the purpose has been fulfilled. See Privacy Policy.

Travel and Accommodation:

Applicants are responsible for their own travel expenses related to the audition. Klangforum Wien will reimburse accommodation costs in Vienna for auditioning candidates.

3. Trial Period

Following the audition, a selection of candidates may be invited to participate in concert projects with the ensemble as guest musician for a period to be agreed upon (up to six months) Travel and accommodation costs will be covered.

Probation Year

After the trial phase, the selected candidate may be invited begin a probation year with Klangforum Wien, leading to potential full membership.
