With 11,000 strings for 50 pianos distributed throughout the space at intervals of one hundredth of a tone, accompanied by a chamber orchestra, Georg Friedrich Haas explores a microtonal space for 50 pianists at an equal number of pianos and an Ensemble. The world premiere in Bolzano (1. August 2023) was performed by pianists from numerous conservatories and universities together with the Mahler Academy Orchestra.
The first performance was part of the Wien Modern 2023 festival: The Klangforum Wien , together with 50 pianists from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW), Klangforum Wien the original version of the work for the first time in the Great Hall of Wiener Konzerthaus November 1, November ). Other tour stops for 11,000 Strings included: the Prague Spring Festival (June 2, 2024), the Holland Festival in Amsterdam (June 22, 2024), the Düsseldorf Festival ( September 15, September ), and the Herrenhausen Arts Festival (May 22, 2025). From September 30 September October 7, 2025, the North American premiere took place at the Park Avenue Armory in New York. On October 30, 2025, 11,000 Strings was performed at the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music in Hangzhou. In March 2026, MaerzMusik Berlin opened with the piece, and on May 10, 2026, 11,000 Strings was performed at the Handelsbeurs in Antwerp.
