For decades, London’s Wigmore Hall has been regarded as a kind of Mecca for chamber music – with its superb acoustics and just the right size, it fosters the greatest possible attention amongst listeners. Klangforum Wien presented itself in two concerts on 16 and 17 February with programmes of the historical “Moderne”, with Vienna at its gravitational centre. Accompagnied by mezzo-soprano Barbara Kozelj the ensemble engaged with this initial spark that revolutionised music history through works by Schoenberg, Mahler, Zemlinsky, Schreker, Eisler and also Busoni – based on a thorough experience of the current radical musical practice and under the expert direction of Vimbayi Kaziboni.
