Warsaw Autumn 2023
Following its premiere at the Wiener Konzerthaus , Klangforum Wien returned with Bernhard Lang's composition A Song for Rachela back on stage as part of the Warsaw Autumn Festival in September 2023 – and therefore brought the piece back to its place of origin: For this work, Bernhard Lang set texts from the Ringelblum Archive to music, which documents the situation in the Warsaw Ghetto between 1940-1943. The work was written in commemoration of the Jewish uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto 80 years ago. Under the baton of Lorenz C. Aichner, the evening’s programme was completed by Chaya Czernowin's composition Rare Earth: alchimia communicationis, featuring soprano Sarah Maria Sun and soloist Evan Hulbert on the double bass.
Bernhard Lang 's compositionA Song for Rachela was commissioned by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
