No more excuses: In 2024, as part of the Wiener Festwochen | Freie Republik Wien, the Akademie Zweite Moderne was founded as an initiative dedicated to serving as a catalyst for a gender-equitable music culture and thereby seeking to transform a centuries-old inequality. Each year, the Akademie Zweite Moderne therefore invites ten internationally pioneering female composers* to Vienna.
Feminist, global, and for everyone: The Academy’s goal is to increase the proportion of works by women composers* in the concert and music theater sectors, to expand the traditional canon, and to create a dedicated network of partner institutions around the world. The result is a female, global, and diverse network of composition and performance!
As in previous years, this year's composers Klangforum Wien in two concerts with Klangforum Wien in 2026. The theme of this year's annual summit meeting of the academy is "Considering Appropriation."
“I am always wary of people who say their identity is just one thing.” (Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie). The concert *No More Excuses I* celebrates the sounds between and spotlights influential female pioneers* who are shaping the discourse on cultural identity and participation through postcolonial and inclusive perspectives.
