To mark Salvatore Sciarrino’s 80th birthday, the Klangforum Wien in Palermo will premiere his new work *Europa rapita, nostalgie d’Oriente per 23 esecutori *. Salvatore Sciarrino was born on 4 April 1947 in Palermo. He began composing at the age of twelve and taught himself music.
He later furthered his self-taught studies with Turi Belfiore. His first work was also publicly performed in Palermo in 1962.
To date, the Klangforum Wien has performed the following compositions by Salvatore Sciarrino, among others: *Luci mie traditrici*, *Macbeth*, *Quaderno di strada*,*Il silenzio degli oracoli*, *Gesualdo senza parole*, and *Carnaval 1–10*.
