Podium am Puls – Sven Hartberger: „Mallingers Abschied“

Wiener Konzerthaus, Schubert Hall, Vienna
February 16, 2024 7:30 PM

Sven Hartberger, former director of Klangforum Wien, presents his latest book Mallingers Abschied oder vom Sinn und vom Unsinn der Arbeit.

Together with the CEO of the Public Employment Service Austria (AMS) Johannes Kopf, the author discusses the central question of the book: The legendary essay by John Maynard Keynes entitled »Economic Possibilities for our Grandchildren« was published in 1930. In this text, the famous economist predicted that by 2030 at the latest, technological progress would make high prosperity possible for everyone with a standard working week of just 15 hours. In terms of technological development, Keynes was right. So why has the 15-hour week not come to fruition to this day?

Klangforum Wien accompanies and reflects the evening with pieces by Roman Haubenstock-Ramati and Friedrich Cerha.
