Neuentdeckungen: Lucia Dlugoszewski (TALK)

Polish Institute Vienna, Vienna
October 2, 2023 6:30 PM

Lucia Dlugoszewski belongs to a long line of outstanding Polish émigrés who left an imprint on music and culture of other countries, starting from Chopin in France to Roman Haubenstock-Ramati in Austria. As a member of the New York School, the most influential group of American composers in the mid-20th century, Dlugoszewski remained a distinctive figure, committed to the specific qualities of the Polish musical tradition and thereby contributing to the experimental trends of Western modern music. Thanks to her private and professional connection with the Erick Hawkins Dance Company, she created a series of choreographic musical works, for which she often developed her own instruments. In a conversation about her music and its connection to contemporary dance, this evening will feature choreographer Bert Gstettner (former student of Erick Hawkins), violist Paul Beckett (Klangforum Wien) and musicologist Michał Mendyk.
