Erwachen

The sexual awakening in Stefan George's "Hanging Gardens" drove Arnold Schoenberg to abandon the realm of worn-out dissonances, moving towards free atonality. In his wake, Luigi Nono and Beat Furrer can be perceived and understood as the architects of a never ceasing fresh departure. Hannah Kendall, on the other hand, lets fragments of European art music resound on a Creole plantation, thus paving the way for her nascent Afrofuturist Opera.
