Vera Fischer was born in Basel, Switzerland. She studied the flute with Günter Rumpel and Philippe Racine at the Zurich College of Music and received her orchestra and concert diploma with honors.
Vera Fischer has played with various chamber music formations as well as in the Zurich Opera Orchestra. Her interest in the various means of expression inherent in contemporary music already began during her formative years. Since then she has played with a wide variety of formations in premieres of solo and ensemble works.
For her work as flautist, she has received various prizes such as the Study Prize of the Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund as well as the Ernst Göhner-Stiftung. In 1999, the municipality of Riehen/Basel awarded her its Culture Prize.
Since 2009, Vera Fischer has been teaching in the master's program "Performance Practice in Contemporary Music" at the Kunstuniversität Graz, led by Klangforum Wien. She also supervised the project "Neighbors", a music education project of Klangforum Wien, together with Björn Wilker.
A special focus of her teaching activities lies in the area of body and breath coaching. Since 2022 Vera Fischer studies music physiology at the Zurich University of the Arts.
Vera Fischer has been a member of Klangforum Wien since 1999.
