Sophie Schafleitner

Sophie Schafleitner was born in Salzburg in 1974. After studying at the Mozarteum with Irmgard Gahl, she completed concert studies for violin at the University of Music in Vienna with Gerhard Schulz. 

Sophie Schafleitner has been a violinist at Klangforum Wien since 1997. In addition to her Ensemble- and solo activities, she is also active in various chamber music formations and as a dramaturge in the Klangforum Wien .

Composers such as Aureliano Cattaneo, Liza Lim, Franck Bedrossian, Mirela Ivičević, Sara Glojnarić, Hannes Kerschbaumer and Ying Wang have dedicated solo works to her.

Musical highlights in recent years have been the Austrian premiere of Brice Pauset's violin concerto, as well as concerts with the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Warsaw and Katowice with the violin concertos by Alban Berg and Aureliano Cattaneo.

She has also appeared as a soloist in various music theater productions by Christoph Marthaler, most recently at the Wiener Festwochen and the Ruhrtriennale.

In the context of Klangforum Wien's professorship at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Sophie Schafleitner is a lecturer for the master programme Performance Practice in Contemporary Music. She is also a lecturer for the ECMA (European chamber music academy).
