Mikael Rudolfsson (born 1987 in Stockholm) became principal trombone of the Gävle Symfoniorkester in his native Sweden at the age of 20 before moving to Germany for further studies. He studied trombone in Gothenburg and Hanover and chamber music in Basel. At Schauspiel Hannover, he has appeared in several theater productions, including the play "Atlas of the Remote Islands," which was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen in 2015.
Mikael Rudolfsson has played as a soloist with orchestras and ensembles in Germany, Slovenia, Russia, Mexico, Norway and Sweden, such as the Far East Philharmonic Orchestra, and has been a regular guest with Ensemble Modern and Klangforum Wien. His passion for contemporary music leads him to various festivals worldwide, such as Wien Modern, Donaueschinger Musiktage or Festival Internacional Cervantino Guanajuato.
Among a number of his own projects are world premieres with the international Ensemble Schwerpunkt, the trio HDR with his Swedish friends David Huang (piano) and Filip Draglund (trumpet) with acoustic electro, or the Orchester im Treppenhaus.
He has recorded for broadcasting companies like Deutschlandfunk, BR, HR, SWR, NDR, SRF, and Wergo, and GENUIN.
Since fall 2018, Rudolfsson has been teaching at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK).
Mikael Rudolfsson joined Klangforum Wien as a member in 2017.
