Gunde Jäch-Micko was born in Vienna and grew up on the outskirts of the city. She showed an early interest in music and learned to play the violin, folk harp and piano.
From 1978 to 1991, she studied violin at the University of Music in Vienna with professors Michael Frischenschlager, Ernst Kovacic and Gerhard Schulz. Her main area of interest at the time was chamber music for small ensembles up to chamber orchestras. She studied baroque violin and baroque performance practice for several years. She has won several prizes at the national competition "Jugend musiziert" as well as at international violin competitions.
She has been a member of Klangforum Wien since 1990. It is within the ensemble that she nurtured her interest in contemporary music and gained a wealth of experience as a soloist, chamber musician and ensemble performer both domestically and abroad. Moreover, she has participated in numerous CD and radio recordings over the past 30 years.
In recent years she has turned to and explored improvisation: both conceptual improvisation as well as free improv.
